Suggested links from Allison Freedman

From Allison Freedman on 12/11/05:
I have several items that I've saved from the AP World History listserve that might be of interest to our group:
In the 12/11 Guardian, there is an excellent essay by Ian Buruma about the West's view of China over the last 1500 years. Buruma explains how the West's attitude to China has changed over time, and how the current Western business obsession with the Chinese market is dangerous for democracy.

***************************************************** Here is a website that I found, that my students enjoyed. It is a modern Mongolian rap group named Black Rose, that uses traditional singing methods from the Central Asian steppe to re-assert their nationalism and are embracing Genghis Kahn as a national symbol. Have a great day!

I used this with my students. We went into the computer lab and I asked them to explore the site and to write three multiple choice questions which were AP style(meaning that they had five choices and answers that were meant to be distractors). They e-mailed their questions to me and I cut and pasted a selection so they could practice and we could discuss how questions are written and tips on things to do and to avoid in answering. I thought this activity worked pretty well.
